Teaching Financial Literacy for California’s Future
Since 2005, First Commercial Bank, N.A (USA) employees have been traveling to schools to teach students the basics – and the importance – of financial literacy.
First Commercial Bank, N.A (USA) employees present information on money management in a format that fits various age levels and audiences. Our behind-the-scene bank tours give students a first hand look at what happens in a bank. Over 500 students have attended a presentation each year since the program’s inception.
Presentations cover the following topics:
Budgeting

- How to review your paycheck stubs and plan to meet your future goals.
- Reviewing your resources to determine what can be spent and how you can save.

Credit

Savings and Investments

The Federal Reserve System
- How the Federal Reserve Bank began; Federal Reserve System structure; how it works.
- Cash distribution and how checks work.
- How the Federal Reserve lends money to banks.
Banking and the United States Economy
- Financial services provided by banks; how banks contribute to the economy and community.
- Description of a typical bank; the functions of banking.
- Where money comes from; what happens when it is deposited in a bank.
